Proverbs 1:30

“They would not accept my counsel,

They spurned all my reproof.”

Verse 30 continues the explanation of why Wisdom refuses to answer those who seek her in verse 28. The language closely mirrors verse 25, where Wisdom accused the people of neglecting her counsel and rejecting her reproof. This repetition reinforces the deliberate nature of their rejection. Wisdom had repeatedly offered guidance and correction, yet the people consistently refused to receive either. The word spurned conveys a strong sense of rejection, suggesting contempt for the very instruction that could have preserved them from their coming calamity. The use of the word all further emphasizes the extent of their refusal. They rejected every opportunity for correction that Wisdom offered.

The people were given an opportunity to change their course, but they chose to continue along their own path. This also connects to verse 29, where we learn that they hated knowledge and refused to choose the fear of the LORD. Ultimately, their rejection of counsel and reproof was the outward expression of that deeper attitude toward God. The repetition of these accusations throughout the passage establishes a clear progression: Wisdom offered instruction, the people rejected it, and their rejection ultimately brought about the calamity they now face. Their refusal to accept correction has left them to experience the consequences of their own decisions as seen in the following verse 1:31.
